Freedom Lies in Zipcars

Posted By on February 27th, 2012

I thought that as a freshman I was going to be stuck on campus since we aren’t allowed to have cars until our sophomore year, but the University brought in this neat little company that has made traveling so much easier! Yes, there is the RIPTA which for the most part will take us anywhere we may need to go, but I didn’t grow up with public transportation so I am always that awkward person that clearly has no idea what they are doing and obviously doesn’t want to be sitting on a bus. But now, I can avoid the RIPTA by using a Zipcar! The RIPTA is more economically friendly (since freshmen receive free bus passes), but I can go anywhere I want whenever I want with Zipcar. It’s nice to know that I can just make a reservation and drive to places such as the grocery store or even out of state. Convenient, isn’t it? Yesterday I drove to my grandparents’ house in Massachusetts, had lunch with them, and came back with plenty of sweets :) .

Enough about that, let’s move on to the fun and exciting news and events.

Remember how in my last blog I mentioned being at Baypoint for Orientation Advisor group process and that I was going to receive a decision soon? Well, I picked up my letter on the 17th at noon from Student Programs & Leadership and…. I GOT THE POSITION!!! I was so unbelievably excited that I had a smile on my face from ear to ear for the rest of the day. So, I’ll be spending some of my summer here at Roger Williams training, having fun, and meeting the incoming freshmen. Yayyy!!! Those nerves are gone now, but I’m still waiting until tomorrow for my RA decision. (Crossing my fingers for that one as well!)

As if I haven’t put enough on my plate already, I recently was initiated into Phi Alpha Delta- an academic/professional Pre-Law fraternity with a chapter here on campus. The membership came with a bunch of benefits that I’ll not only use now, but also when I apply to law school in a few years.

Oh, and there is also SOAR, which is a two hour class every Tuesday night that, in this stage, teaches us about ourselves and how others see us in order to help us gain leadership skills for the future.

On Friday evening Mike Super, a magician/illusionist, came to campus to perform. After sitting at a CEN table all week and watching his promotional video play everyday, I thought that maybe when I saw him in person then I would finally be able to figure out all of his tricks… but no such luck… at all. I wonder if he would tell me how he dropped a full size bowling ball out of a pad of paper? Or how he made a paper rose go up into flames and have it suddenly turn into a real rose? My mind was, and still is, blown. Seriously, he was fascinating!

Also, I wanted to apologize for not writing a blog in a couple of weeks. The amount of schoolwork I have had to do recently is absolutely insane, but then again I had such a light work load my first semester that maybe I deserved this… ?? I’ve been trying to juggle everything that I mentioned above, and finally I have a little bit of time to breathe! Knock on wood.

Until next time!!! (Preferably sooner than two weeks from now…)
